In recent years, we have witnessed the increasing growth of technology and rapid and comprehensive advances in the construction industry. Although these developments will lead to productivity, economic growth and prosperity, they will create new concerns and challenges in various fields, including health, safety and the environment. It is clear that the increasing growth of technology will lead to more and wider definition of various projects in the construction industry and consequently, the use of manpower and materials and tools will increase. This will have adverse effects on human health, safety and the environment. [1] Therefore, it seems necessary to pay attention to the systematic management of HSE in the construction industry. It is also important to note that reducing work-related accidents is so important to project stakeholders because of its benefits, so that projects which reduce accidents are usually very attractive to project managers. [2] This is where HSE management in construction projects comes into play as a key area, combined with project risk management, reduces the costs and adverse consequences of the project. In this paper, the role of HSE management system in achieving sustainable development, the effect of training project managers on reducing accidents, strategies to improve safety, a model for developing HSE management system and the effectiveness of safety programs to reduce work-related accidents are reviewed.
